Terms of Use

Last updated: October 18, 2026.

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Rheos Labs LLC. By creating an account or using THE SPACE, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use THE SPACE.

THE SPACE is a digital experience operated by Rheos Labs LLC. It provides a quiet, non-clinical environment for personal reflection, connection, and orientation. THE SPACE is not a medical product, not a therapeutic service, and not a crisis or emergency service.

  • A licensed mental health treatment, therapy, or counseling service
  • A medical device, diagnostic tool, or clinical intervention
  • A crisis intervention or emergency response service
  • A substitute for professional psychological, psychiatric, or medical care

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal ideation, or a medical emergency, please contact emergency services (911), the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), or go to your nearest emergency room.

THE SPACE is not monitored, and no one at Rheos Labs is alerted when a conversation turns to danger. When its automated safety systems notice signs that someone could be at serious risk, THE SPACE points to crisis resources such as 988 and 911 and opens Reach Out. As our Privacy Policy explains under “Safety,” a person at Rheos Labs looks at a conversation only if someone reports a concern to us, if you ask us to, if it is needed to keep the service secure, or if the law requires it. If a report leads us to believe in good faith that there is an immediate danger of death or serious physical injury, we may share what is needed with emergency services or law enforcement. Because no one watches conversations as they happen, this is something we may do, not something we can promise, and it does not create a clinical relationship or a duty to act. And if what we read ever leads us to suspect that a child, or an adult who cannot protect themselves (for example, because of age, illness or a disability, including an intellectual disability), is being abused, neglected or exploited (including having their money or property taken), we will report it to the authorities who protect them, as New Mexico law asks of everyone.

No professional relationship. Using THE SPACE does not create a therapist-client, counselor-client, or any other professional relationship between you and Rheos Labs or anyone who works with us, including people who hold a professional license.

Do not delay care. Do not disregard professional advice, delay seeking it, or change or stop a medication or treatment because of something you read or heard in THE SPACE.

No promised result. THE SPACE offers a place and a process. We do not promise that using it will produce any particular result or benefit for you.

You must be 18 years of age or older to use THE SPACE. THE SPACE is intended for adults only. It is operated from the United States and is currently intended for people located in the United States; the crisis resources it names are United States resources. THE SPACE is not currently offered to people who live in Illinois or Vermont. If you live in either state, please do not create an account. We will update this when that changes.

We verify your age through our third-party provider, Yoti, before you can access THE SPACE. Verification uses a photo of a government-issued ID, which Yoti reads only to confirm that the document is genuine and that you are 18 or older. You will be asked to consent before it is collected. Yoti processes and then deletes the document; THE SPACE stores only whether you passed and the date of the check — never your ID image, your ID number, or your date of birth. The check is used solely to verify your age, and the result is never sold or shared. Your use of Yoti's verification is also subject to Yoti's terms and privacy policy.

If the ID check cannot confirm your age, you may ask a licensed professional who knows you through their work to confirm that you are 18 or older. They give us their name and license details, we check the license and make the decision, and we ask them nothing else about you.

You agree not to bypass, falsify, or defeat age verification, including by submitting another person's identity document or arranging a false confirmation.

We may suspend or close an account that does not pass age verification, or that we reasonably believe belongs to someone under 18.

Your account is for you alone. Give us accurate information, keep your sign-in details private, and tell us at contact@rheoslabs.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you use THE SPACE on a device other people can reach, what you have saved may be visible to them; sign out when you are done.

You agree to use THE SPACE only for lawful personal purposes. You agree not to:

  • Use THE SPACE in any way intended to harm yourself or others
  • Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate the underlying systems, AI models, or proprietary architecture
  • Attempt to circumvent or disable any safety, consent, or governance systems
  • Use THE SPACE to harass, threaten, manipulate, or harm any other person
  • Post or transmit content that is fraudulent, abusive, or harassing toward other users
  • Upload or share content that is unlawful, or that you do not have the right to share
  • Share your account credentials, session access, or session codes with unauthorized individuals
  • Access THE SPACE through automated means, bots, or scraping tools
  • Use THE SPACE for any commercial purpose without written authorization from Rheos Labs

THE SPACE is an artificial intelligence, not a human being. When you talk with THE SPACE, in text or by voice, you are talking with an AI system. No person is writing or speaking its replies.

All responses are generated by artificial intelligence and are not the advice of a licensed professional. Do not rely on AI-generated responses as a substitute for professional medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.

AI can be wrong. A reply may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and it may state something as fact that is not true. What THE SPACE remembers or comes to understand about you can also be mistaken; you can read, correct, or remove it on the “What I’ve Come to Know” page. Use your own judgment, and check anything that matters before you act on it.

It is yours. What you type, say, upload, and save in THE SPACE belongs to you. We do not claim ownership of it.

What you allow us to do with it. You give Rheos Labs permission to store, process, and display your content only as needed to provide THE SPACE to you, to keep it safe and working, and to meet our legal obligations, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your content, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use your conversations to train AI models.

What you are responsible for. You are responsible for what you choose to share. Talking about your life means talking about the people in it, and that is expected. Please share about other people only what you need in order to talk about your own experience, and do not upload another person's private documents, images, or identifying details unless you have the right to.

If you work in health care. You are welcome to use THE SPACE for yourself, including to think through your own work. Do not enter information that identifies your patients or clients, such as their names, dates, record numbers, or details that would let someone recognize them; describe situations in general terms instead. THE SPACE is not built to hold protected health information under HIPAA, and Rheos Labs does not sign business associate agreements.

Saved passages. Passages you save from Companion Reading, and any notes you write on them, are stored with your account. THE SPACE does not read them in the background. A passage reaches the AI only when you choose “Bring this in,” which shares that one passage for that one message.

Keep your own copy. We work to keep your content safe, but no service can promise that nothing will ever be lost. If something matters to you, download or keep your own copy.

Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions about THE SPACE, we may use them freely, without owing you anything. This applies only to feedback about THE SPACE itself, never to your conversations or the content you add.

Close Encounters. If you pair with a partner, what you write in a shared activity is shown to your partner. If either of you chooses to keep an activity, both answers are saved to the Archive of the person who kept it, and stay there until that person deletes them. Close Encounters is not couples counseling or mediation. Each person is responsible for their own participation and for how they treat the other. Rheos Labs is not a party to disagreements between you and another person.

Reach Out and your support person. Reach Out lists crisis and support resources. It also lets you name a support person, who must agree first, and send them one of a small set of pre-written notes. Only you can send a note; THE SPACE never contacts your support person by itself. Name only someone you know personally. These notes are not an emergency service. We do not promise that a note will be delivered, read, or acted on. If you need help now, call or text 988, call 911, or contact the person directly.

Ideas for the real world. Reach & Reconnect, Plan a Rendezvous, and Plan an Adventure offer ideas for things to do. They are suggestions only. THE SPACE does not know your health, your surroundings, or the people involved. Use your own judgment about what is right and safe for you; what you choose to do is your own decision and responsibility.

The breathing, grounding, body-awareness, and guided audio practices in THE SPACE are general wellness activities, not medical or mental health treatment. If you have a health condition, or are not sure a practice is right for you, check with your doctor first. Go at your own pace, and stop any practice that causes pain, distress, or discomfort.

  • Breathing practices can sometimes cause lightheadedness, dizziness, or tingling. If that happens, stop and breathe normally. Do them sitting or lying down, and never while driving, in water, or anywhere that feeling faint could put you in danger. If you are pregnant, or have a heart, breathing, or seizure condition, check with your doctor before doing them.
  • Audio. Do not use guided practices, relaxation audio, or background sound while driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that needs your full attention. Keep the volume at a comfortable level, especially with headphones.
  • Quiet practices can bring things up. Slowing down and turning your attention inward can sometimes bring up difficult feelings, memories, or physical sensations. This is more likely for people who have lived through trauma or who live with a mental health condition. If a practice leaves you feeling worse, stop. You may want to talk with a qualified professional about what came up, or before you continue.
  • Motion. THE SPACE uses slow, gentle animation, and it follows your device's reduce-motion setting. If motion or visual patterns bother you, turn that setting on, or look away and take a break.

Plans and prices. Paid plans: Deepen ($39 a month or $390 a year) and Embody ($79 a month or $790 a year). Close Encounters is included in Embody; on Deepen it is an add-on at $9 per person per month. Taxes may be added where they apply. Payments are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) through your app store account.

Automatic renewal. Monthly plans renew each month, and yearly plans each year, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. Allowances (messages, voice minutes) refill each month, on yearly plans too.

Free trial. Monthly plans start with a 3-day free trial. There is one free trial per person; your app store decides who is eligible, and one trial covers both plans. The Close Encounters add-on has its own 3-day trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your plan begins and you are charged when it ends. Yearly plans have no free trial. During a trial, some amounts are smaller: 60 messages, 5 voice minutes and 3 Content Keeper files.

How to cancel. Cancel at any time in your phone’s subscription settings (App Store or Google Play). Your plan will then not renew, and you keep your access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. You can also email contact@rheoslabs.com and we will help you find where to cancel. Deleting the app from your phone does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in your subscription settings.

When a plan or trial ends. If your plan or free trial ends, whether you cancelled it, a payment did not go through, or a beta period finished, your account and everything in it are kept, and THE SPACE becomes a Library without the AI. Still open: Still Space, the Almanac, Companion Reading, the Workshop, your Archive, What I’ve Come to Know, Reach & Reconnect, and Reach Out. Paused until you subscribe again: conversations with THE SPACE (typed and voice), Rehearsal Mode, the parts of Dream Weaver that shape conversations, adding Content Keeper files, and Close Encounters. The Library is for accounts that have had a plan. Only closing your account deletes your information.

Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, we will tell you by email or in the app 30 days before the new price applies. It will apply from your next billing period after that notice, and you can cancel before then.

Access we grant without charge. Beta, volunteer, or founder access is granted at our discretion, may have an end date, and may be ended at any time.

THE SPACE is still growing. We may add, change, or remove features, voices, rooms, or the AI models behind it, and we may pause the service for maintenance. Features offered as beta or early versions may have errors and may change or disappear. If we ever decide to close THE SPACE altogether, we will give you reasonable notice where we can, so that you can download what you want to keep.

By you. You can stop using THE SPACE at any time, and you can close your account in Settings. Closing your account ends your access right away and deletes your information on the schedule in our Privacy Policy. A subscription you bought through Apple or Google is managed by your app store, so closing your account does not cancel it: cancel it in your phone’s subscription settings as well, or you may still be charged. If you would rather use the time you have paid for, cancel your plan first and close your account later.

By us. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, that does not pass age verification, or where we need to act to protect a person’s safety or the security of the service. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why. If we close your account for a reason other than your breaking these Terms, we will tell you, and where we can, we will keep your access open until the end of the period you have already paid for. Because a subscription bought through Apple or Google is managed by your app store, we will also tell you to cancel it there so you are not charged again. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

The sections on your content, intellectual property, warranties, liability, your responsibility to us, and governing law continue to apply after your use ends.

Your use is governed by our Privacy Policy and our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. The age check reads a photo ID and does not scan or compare your face (see Section 3), and we do not collect heart-rate, wearable, or other physiological data. What we collect, how long we keep it, and the third parties involved are described in our Privacy Policy, which you can also open any time from Settings → Privacy & Terms.

THE SPACE, including its software, design, text, audio, and the systems behind it, belongs to Rheos Labs LLC and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use it under these Terms. The public-domain texts in Companion Reading remain in the public domain. The names of researchers, frameworks, and organizations credited in THE SPACE belong to their owners; we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by them. If you believe something in THE SPACE infringes your copyright, write to contact@rheoslabs.com with the details and we will look into it.

THE SPACE is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, Rheos Labs makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that THE SPACE will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that what it says will be accurate or reliable, or that it will meet your needs or be fit for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Rheos Labs LLC and the people who work with it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of THE SPACE. Our total liability for all claims is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose or $100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including liability for gross negligence, intentional misconduct, or fraud, or takes away consumer rights that cannot be waived. Some states do not allow certain limits, so some of the limits above may not apply to you. If you live in New Jersey, Sections 15, 16, and 17 apply only to the extent New Jersey law permits, and nothing in these Terms limits your rights under New Jersey consumer protection law.

If someone else brings a claim against Rheos Labs because you broke these Terms, broke the law, or shared content you had no right to share, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result. This does not apply to the extent the claim was caused by our own conduct.

We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we will tell you by email and in the app before they take effect and, where the law requires it, ask you to accept them again. The date at the top shows when they were last updated. If you do not agree to a change, stop using THE SPACE and close your account.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico. If you have a concern, please write to us first at contact@rheoslabs.com so we have the chance to put it right. Any dispute that is not resolved that way will be decided in the state or federal courts located in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and Rheos Labs about THE SPACE; if you are in a beta program, your beta agreement also applies. If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a term, that does not mean we have given it up. You may not transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else; we may transfer them as part of a merger, sale, or reorganization, and our Privacy Policy will continue to protect your information. You agree that we may send you notices by email or in the app. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
